Overview:

You will learn more about the wonderful southern region of Morocco on this 6 days tour from Fes to Marrakech and the Merzouga desert. The “Great Hidden South” trips are a great way to learn more about the region’s breathtaking scenery, its historic Kasbahs, and its communities.

There will also be time to explore the movie museum, where classics like “Gladiator” were filmed, and the dark-skinned community of Khamlia, where they will demonstrate their African rhythms. Additionally, we’ll take the Erg Chebbi excursion, where we’ll encounter nomads and drive across several 4×4 routes.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Fes – Midelt – Merzouga desert

6 days tour from Fes to Marrakech will start by leaving Fez and traveling through Ifrane city which is also the Switzerland of Morocco because of its green several parks and clean environment. On our journey, we will stop at Cedar Forest (the largest forest in Morocco). It is a woodland area where you will be able to enjoy the Berber apes climbing the trees.

Continuing our tour, we will visit Midelt which is known for its mineral water and the production of apples. Leaving Midelt we will go through the Ziz Valley before we reach Erfoud to explore the fossil products and Rissani which are famous for its large Souks in Morocco. In Rissani, you will try the Berber Pizza. You will arrive at Merzouga late in the afternoon to spend the night at a hotel. 

Day 2: Merzouga desert 4×4 tour and camel trekking

Today’s plan will be to discover the area of Merzouga. We will enjoy a visit to Khamlia village where you will have the chance to Listen to Gnawa music and observe the Gnawa people’s lifestyle. After that, you will continue exploring the Sahara Desert dunes. The afternoon will be all yours to enjoy the area by yourselves. You may want to experience sandboarding or sandbath in summer. At the hotel’s desert, you will enjoy your night.

Day 3: Merzouga desert tour + camel trekking

On this day we will enjoy exploring the Desert of Erg Chebbi (the largest sand desert in Morocco). This includes visiting a nomad family and having a cup of mint tea with them. Sandboarding from the high dunes will be a perfect experience before you head to have a Berber meal in the evening. While you are enjoying the night in a nomad tent under a sky full of stars in the heart of the Sahara Desert.

Day 4: Merzouga desert – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges

In the early morning, you will enjoy the amazing sunrise before you take your camel excursion back to Merzouga. After having a nice breakfast and a refreshing shower, you will resume your tour toward Rissani and Erfoud where you enjoy the interesting work-shops of fossils. Continuing the tour, we will travel to Todra Gorges through Tinejdad and Tinghir. Todra Gorges is one of the top choices of rock climbers. There, you will have free time to explore the area more deeply. You will spend the night at a hotel in Dades Gorges after leaving Todra Gorges.

Day 5: Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

The next place to visit is Ouarzazate. It is also called the Hollywood of Africa. Cinema Studios and Kasbah are what Ouarzazate is famous for. We will visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou which was built in the 18th century by EThami El Glaoui. Several international movies in this location such as The Kingdom of Heaven (2005), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), and a part of the TV series Game of Thrones. Before we arrive at Marrakech, we will travel through the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2,260 m over the High Atlas). At the hotel, you will spend the night in Marrakech.

Day 6: Marrakech

On the sixth and last day of the tour, you will be visiting some interesting places and monuments in Marrakech including the Koutoubia Minaret ( One of the largest mosques in Morocco), Saadian Tombs, which return to the 17th century, Bahia Palace (19th-century monument), the wonderful Menara Gardens, and the new city Gueliz where Majorelle Gardens (created by a French artist in 1923) is. The tour comes to an end when you are driven to the airport.
