If you’re looking for somewhere warm, colourful and easy to reach for the Easter break, Morocco is hard to beat. Spring is arguably the very best time to visit — the countryside is green, the roses and blossom are out, the heat hasn’t yet arrived, and the school-holiday timing lines up perfectly for families. Here’s what an Easter-week trip looks like.
The weather is just right
Late March and April bring some of the most comfortable weather of the year: warm, sunny days across Marrakech, the valleys and the coast, and pleasantly cool mornings. The desert is warm by day and still cool at night — ideal for a camel trek and a camp night before the summer heat builds. Pack layers for the evenings and the mountains.
Spring colour & blossom
- The Valley of Roses near Kelaat M’Gouna bursts into bloom in April–May, filling the air with scent (the rose festival usually follows in May).
- The Atlas and its valleys are green and lush, with wildflowers and blossom in the villages.
- Oases and palm groves along the Draa and Dades look their freshest.
Good to know: Easter is a Christian holiday, so it isn’t a public holiday in Morocco — shops, sights and souks run as normal, and you’ll simply enjoy a beautiful, uncrowded-by-local-standards spring. Do book ahead, though: European school holidays make it a popular week.
What to do over the week
Easter week (roughly 7–10 days) is enough for a proper loop. A favourite:
- Marrakech — ease in with gardens, souks and a first tagine.
- Over the Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and the kasbah road, greenest in spring.
- The Dades & Todra gorges, then on to the Merzouga desert for a night under the stars.
- Back via the mountains, or continue to Fes; add Essaouira on the coast if you have days to spare.
Great for families
Because Easter overlaps school holidays, it’s a brilliant window for a family adventure — camel rides, kasbahs and desert camps, with spring temperatures that are much kinder to children than the summer. (See our guide to travelling Morocco with kids.)
Ramadan note
Some years Ramadan falls in spring. It’s a peaceful and interesting time to travel — tours run normally — though daytime dining options can be quieter. We’ll let you know if your dates overlap and plan around it.
